1. What's in the cartridges? Is it safe?

The liquid in the cartridges contains propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), water, artificial flavorings and, if desired, nicotine.

PG is found in many foods. It is used as a humectant (moisture stabilizer) and as the base in almost all added flavorings.

Glycerine (VG) is used in commericial bakeries, and in cough syrups, toothpaste, and mouthwash.

PG and VG are the main ingredients in the fog machines which are used at sporting events and in stage and screen productions.

To our knowledge, no long-term clinical trials have yet been conducted. The only preliminary research we know of is that conducted by HealthNZ, an organization comitted to reducing cigarette smoking in New Zealand. Their research suggests that the use of personal vaporizers poses little danger, and is much safer than the use of cigarettes.

2. Will an electronic cigarette improve my health?

That depends on the individual, and it's really hard to say. There have been no long-term clinical studies and electronic cigarettes have not been evaluated by the FDA. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, including nicotine addiction or the smoking habit.

If you are a smoker, you know how bad it is for you. The American Lung Association says "cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer. Smoking is directly responsible for approximately 90 percent of lung cancer deaths and approximately 80-90 percent of COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) deaths." When using an electronic cigarette, the liquid is not burned but merely atomized. Therefore, an electronic cigarette does not produce the tar or carcinogenic chemicals found in cigarette smoke.

At this time, there just isn't enough information available to determine the long-term effects of electronic cigarette use. All you can do is gather all the information available, and make a decision based on what you think is right. If you feel you need more information, e-cig-info.org has a lot more informaion regarding electronic cigarette health issues.

Also, if you check out the various forums on the web, you'll find that the vast majority of users report they have given up smoking with ease, and that their breathing and general health has improved.

3. How long do the cartridges last?

If you've been checking out the other companies that sell electronic cigarettes, you'll have heard that one cartridge equals a pack of cigarettes. DON"T BELIEVE IT! These people are lying to you trying to convince you what a remarkable deal it is.

The truth is, the cartridge in the smallest units only last for about 3-4 cigarettes equivalent. That is one reason LibertyEcig.com does not carry the smallest line of electronic cigarettes (the other reason is they just don't put out enough vapor - we know, we've tried over a dozen models and they are all just too weak). In our experience, the best estimates are:

ModelCigarettes Equivalent
Liberty Mini (or generic 401)3 - 6
Liberty Standard (or generic 901)5 - 8
Liberty Penstyle (or generic 4072/801)8 - 12
Liberty Perfecto (or generic cigar)10 - 15
Liberty Puffer (or generic pipe)12 - 20

If you would like more information, e-cig-info.org has done a cost of use analysis that compares all the various electronic cigarette models and regular cigarettes.

4. How long do the batteries last?

The other companies and manufacturers also tend to be dishonest about battery duration and life. Most claim that all batteries last for about 6 - 8 cigarettes equivalent and can be recharged 300 times.

The truth is, battery duration varies greatly among individual batteries due to factors such as shelf-life and production quality control. The batteries in the smallest units only stay strong enough to perform well for about 2 - 3 cigarettes equivalent. After that, they just don't have enough charge left to give a suitable amount of vapor. The batteries in the larger models last longer, but still tend to not produce enough vapor when their charge starts to weaken. In our experience, the best estimates of useful battery duration are:

ModelCigarettes Equivalent
Liberty Mini (or generic 401)2 - 3
Liberty Standard (or generic 901)4 - 8
Liberty Penstyle (or generic 4072/801)6 - 10
Liberty Perfecto (or generic cigar)10 - 15
Liberty Puffer (or generic pipe)15 - 25

Also, batteries don't last for 300 charge cycles. After 100-200 charges they just won't hold a strong enough charge to give full vapor production for more than half the time they did when new.

If you would like more information, e-cig-info.org has done a cost of use analysis that compares all the various electronic cigarette models and regular cigarettes.

5. What are some of the benefits of using the LibertyEcig?

NO MORE STINKING UP THE ROOM!
The vapor emitted by the LibertyEcig is basically odorless. If you blow it straight into the face of someone with a hyper-sensitive nose, they may be able to catch the slightest odor. Otherwise, you could vape away all day in a room and nobody would ever smell it. This also means:

NO MORE REEKING CLOTHES, SMELLY CAR, STINKY HOUSE, AND YELLOW WALLS!
The vapor from a LibertyEcig dissipates quickly and cleanly. There's no tar and other chemicals to absorb into clothing and walls.

NO MORE DIRTY ASHTRAYS AND CIGARETTE BUTTS!
If you're tired of the mess made by cigarette butts and ashes all over the place, you'll appreciate the clean operation of the LibertyEcig. Help save the landfills!

YOU WON'T HAVE NASTY SMOKER'S BREATH!
Depending on the flavor you use, your breath will range anywhere from neutral to even sweet. The menthol flavors leave your mouth feeling like you just had a mint, and the other flavors can sweeten your breath just like a candy or fruit without the sugar and food particles that cause bad breath.

YOU'LL SAVE MONEY!
Governments just keep upping the taxes on tobacco products. Who knows when cigarettes will hit $10 a pack? The typical pack-a-day smoker ends up using 1-2 ml a day of liquid. When you combine this with replacement costs for electronic cigarette components, the long-term cost averages out to about $1-2 a day. Check out the e-cig-info.org cost analysis for detailed information.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES DO NOT VIOLATE MOST SMOKING BANS!
Most smoking bans are laws against the burning of tobacco. With an electronic cigarette, you are not burning anything and there is no tobacco. This does not mean you can "smoke anywhere" as some disreputable companies are claiming. Remember, when you're in someone else's establishment, it's their business. Be courteous, explain what you're doing, and you may be received in a positive manner. Check out these first-hand accounts.

6. Is the LibertyEcig designed to help me quit smoking?

NO!  Electronic cigarettes, including those sold LibertyEcig, have not been approved by the FDA as a NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) device. Unlike nicotine gum, patches, and inhalers, the personal vaporizer completely imitates the action, feel, and quick nicotine effects of smoking.

LibertyEcig does not sell electronic cigarettes as quit-smoking devices, as there are no clinical studies regarding their efficacy for this purpose. We offer LibertyEcigs simply as an enjoyable device which can be viewed as an alternative to smoking.

7. How long should my LibertyEcig last?

Electronic cigarettes are designed so that the batteries and atomizers can be easily replaced when they wear out. This is because these are relatively new devices whose design and manufacture has not yet been perfected. If you think about it, it's amazing how well they do work. It takes a lot of heat to vaporize liquids, and those tiny batteries do an excellent job over and over again. The stress on the heating coil is tremendous, yet it works for thousands of uses. E-cigs are nowhere near perfect, but they already do an outstanding job with a reasonable lifetime.

Batteries

See FAQ 4. How long do the batteries last? for battery life information.

Atomizers

The expected life of an atomizer is determined mostly by proper use and care. Don't overheat the atomizer by quickly repeated usage - allow 10-15 seconds to cool between uses. Don't overfill your cartridges - this will flood your atomizer and possibly damage the switches inside the battery. Keep it clean - there are many ways to clean your atomizer. Check out the user guides at e-cig-info.org for more information. If you follow these instructions, an atomizer should last at least 3-6 weeks (pack-a-day volume). We have seen atomizers last 4 months and longer.
